All modern vehicles are equipped with an engine ECU (Electronic Control Unit), these ECUs have preloaded software that controls the behaviour of the engine.
ECU Remapping allows you to alter the software of your ECU in order to increase power, torque and/or fuel economy.
As manufacturers build their vehicles to be sold across multiple countries, the stock software or ‘map’ on your car is restricted in its capabilities as it must account for global emissions standards, quality of fuel across the globe and weather conditions etc.
Vehicle manufacturers also use the original ECU map to intentionally limit the power output of their vehicles in order to release newer better performing models later on, with no mechanical difference.
